Not being old enough to go through their musical blossoming during the 90s, the discordant Montreal trio Chop Sue Me quenches its thirst through this project as a return to an energetic “indie rock”, while being emancipated from belonging to any genre of music. Finding inspiration in punk, folk, noise-rock, post-punk and grunge music, the group mixes each other’s musical palettes to obtain a sound both aggressive and melodic and as nostalgic as it is modern. Intergenerational identity distress, anti-capitalism, depression, family turmoil and other sensitive topics are roughly mashed together and vocalized from their very first single “Afraid” (2019) to their new EP “Murder in the Powerhouse of the Self” scheduled for release with local record label Hell for Breakfast.

Faute d’avoir vécu en tant qu’adulte dans les années 90, le trio Montréalais étanche sa soif de retour au « rock indépendant » énergique et émancipé d’appartenance à un genre à travers ce projet regroupant trois musiciens hétéroclites. Allant chercher l’inspiration chez le punk, le folk, le noise-rock, le post-punk et la country, le groupe mélange les palettes musicales de chacun pour obtenir un son autant agressif que mélodique, autant nostalgique que moderne. La détresse identitaire intergénérationnelle, l’anticapitalisme, la dépression, les troubles familiaux et autres sujets sensibles sont impoliment expiés par voie expiratoire.
