Between 2008 & 2015, Hate It Too relocated from Trois-Pistoles, a small rural town in Eastern Québec, to Québec City, the province’s capital, to release an EP (It’s About Time - 2012) and later a full-length album (Purple Mountains - 2015).
Keeping it “DIY” for the first few years, the four guys modestly sold copies and streamed in Europe, Asia and South America, on top of maintaining local distribution. Being in this situation has its advantages… You’re always first to the pitch when it’s time to supporting for the big bands coming through your city, which allowed them to share the stage with international acts such as Gob, A Wilhelm Scream, Swingin' Utters, Bigwig, Seaway, Pears, The Brains, Mute, and the list of bands that fit with their style goes on. The maturity & experience they cultivated from these shows paid off.
Montreal-based record label Hell for Breakfast extended an offer after hearing the demos for their sophomore album “Lampshading”. “Where were these guys before?” and “Is this bassist now the best bassist we have on the roster?” were the only things the staff had to say. Not too long after that, the album came out in May of 2020.
The critics described the album as:
“melodic and poppy” as well as featuring “suitable choruses for a sing-along” – This borderline fucked up is still not yet about to drool
“the pure essence of melodic hardcore […] this distinctive quartet could be easily compared with Propagandhi” – Thoughts Words Action
There weren’t any shows to promote the release because of the pandemic, however, that didn’t stop the album from reaching over 50,000 streams since hitting the platforms.
In the same year, the band released their first French song on the label’s compilation “Zoo5” which got them some mainstream attention on TV & radios.
Extra time meant more opportunity to work on some songs that they will now release as an EP called “Gaslighting” on November 5th, 2021.
